More teens choose brainy jobs over business jobs
What do teenagers consider to be the ideal job?
For the first time in five years, “business person” isn’t number one. Instead, teens said they most wanted to work as a doctor or in engineering and science, according to the latest Junior Achievement “Kids and Careers” poll.
The next most popular jobs teens named were “entertainer,” “professional athlete” and “teacher.” Fifth on the list was a career in business – a drop that some attribute to the bad economy.
Teenagers are pretty confident they can get the jobs they want, the poll shows. Of all the teens surveyed, 89 percent said they felt well prepared to be successful at their job, either now or in adulthood. Even if a career as a doctor is a few online degrees away, working teen jobs now can pave the way for future success.
